Packing Your Hospital Bag for Twins: What You Need (and What You Don’t)

If you’re preparing to welcome twins, congratulations! It’s an exciting (and busy) time—but when it comes to your hospital bag, it doesn’t mean you need to double everything.

Here’s how to pack smart for a twin birth, whether it’s planned or unexpected:

1.Double the Baby Basics (but Not Everything)

Pack double the quantity of sets of vests, sleepsuits, and hats for each baby, plus a few extras in case of accidents. Generally rule of thumb is 6-8 per baby (so 12-16 for twins). But you don’t need double of nappies, wipes, or creams. A single supply will cover both babies during your hospital stay.

2.Comfort Essentials for You

Twin births can involve longer stays or more interventions, especially if it’s a planned C-section. Make sure you have:

  • Extra nightwear
  • Supportive knickers (the Carriwell panties packs are excellent)
  • Nipple cream and breast pads (if breastfeeding)
  • A refillable water bottle—you’ll be thirsty!

3.Snacks & Chargers

Double the babies often means double the waiting (and double the tiredness). Pack high-energy snacks and a long charger cable for downtime and partner support.

4.Birth Plan Copies & Notes

Bring copies of your birth preferences, especially if you’re planning a vaginal twin birth or have NICU considerations.
