How to Create a Comfort Bag for Chemotherapy Days

Whether it’s your first treatment or last, chemotherapy days can feel long and emotionally draining. Creating a comfort bag filled with thoughtful, calming essentials can make a big difference to how you feel, both physically and emotionally.

Here’s what many patients find helpful to pack:

1.A Soft Blanket or Shawl

You can feel chilly during chemo, and warmth equals comfort. Plus, the hospital blankets are more like towels, so not cosy. Choose a lightweight but snuggly blanket that’s easy to carry. Fleece blankets are a good option.

2.Entertainment Options

Bring a book, crossword, or download a playlist or podcast in advance. Gentle distraction can help pass the time. Make sure you bring a charger (with a long lead, ideally) also to ensure you don’t run out of charge.

3.Hydrating Snacks & Drinks

Treatment can cause dry mouth and nausea. Pack ginger sweets, crackers, or electrolyte drinks—whatever feels good on delicate tummies.

4.Comfortable Headwear

If you’re experiencing hair loss, bring a soft beanie or headscarf to wear before and after treatment. It’s about comfort and confidence.

5.Lip Balm & Hand Cream

Skin can become sensitive and dry. Unscented, nourishing balms help you feel more like yourself.

6.A Journal or Notepad

Many people find peace in writing thoughts, gratitude, or simply tracking symptoms to share with their care team.
