The Forgotten Essentials: 7 Things Mums Nearly Always Leave Out of Their Hospital Bag

When it comes to packing your maternity hospital bag, it’s easy to focus on the big things lie pyjamas, nappies, baby grows. But there are always a few small items that mums wish they’d brought.

Here are 7 of the most commonly forgotten, but oh-so-useful, hospital bag essentials:

1. Lip Balm

Hospital air can be very dry, and between breathing through contractions and hours in bed, your lips will feel it.

2. Extension Lead

Phone charging ports are often far from the bed. An extension lead or extra long charging cable = instant convenience.

3. Face Mist or Cooling Spray

A godsend during labour, especially if the room is warm or you’re having hot flushes (a cooling towel works wonderfully here aswell).

4. Folder for Paperwork

Keep all those discharge notes, forms and birth plans clean and together.

5. Notebook & Pen

Jot down feeding times, questions for midwives, or the tiny moments you’ll want to remember later.

6. Fluffy Socks or Slippers with Grip

Hospitals can be chilly and slippery—stay warm and safe during those first walks post-birth.

7. Snacks You Actually Like

Yes, the energy bars are good, but throw in your favourite crisps or chocolate too. You’ve earned it!
