What to Pack for a Hospital Stay During Cancer Treatment

Whether it’s a planned stay or part of your treatment schedule, preparing for a hospital visit during cancer treatment can be daunting. Having your own comforts close can make a world of difference.

Here’s what to consider packing:

1. Soft Layers & Comfortable Clothing

Choose breathable, easy-on pieces (button fronts are especially useful for infusions or check-ups).

2. Comfort Items

A soft blanket, warm socks, or a familiar pillowcase (or even your own pillow) can help you feel more at ease in a hospital setting.

3. Entertainment Options

Books, puzzles, headphones, or a tablet with your favourite shows help pass the time and distract from discomfort.

4. Toiletries & Hydration

Lip balm, moisturiser, hand cream and facial spray offer gentle comfort for skin that might feel dry or sensitive. Don’t forget a reusable water bottle or double walled bottle to keep hot drinks warm during the day or night.

5. Snacks & Treats

Pack snacks that are gentle on your stomach but also feel like a treat—think mints, herbal teas, or a favourite biscuit.

6. Notebook & Pen

Helpful for jotting down questions, appointment details, or just thoughts and reflections. A mindfulness or cancer journal can be good for this purpose too.
