Your Partner’s Hospital Bag: 7 Essentials They’ll Be Glad to Have

Mums aren’t the only ones who need to be prepared for labour and delivery. Your birth partner plays a huge role, and having the right things packed can help them support you better.

Here are 7 simple but important items your partner should pack in their own hospital bag.

1.Snacks & Drinks

Labour can be long—and there’s no guarantee of food availability (for either you or your partner), especially in the middle of the night. Energy bars, fruit, water, and a few treats will go a long way.

2.A Change of Clothes

Whether they stay overnight or not, a fresh t-shirt, hoodie and comfy trousers will help them feel more human. Clean socks and underwear too!

3.Phone Charger (Ideally with a Long Cable)

They’ll likely be using their phone for updates, photos, and music, so a charger is a must, especially one with a long lead to reach awkward plugs in hospital rooms.

4.Toiletries

A small toiletry bag with deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and face wipes will be appreciated more than they realise.

5.Essential Paperwork & Contact List

If they’re the one carrying hospital notes or ID, make sure it’s in their bag. It’s also helpful to have a list of family/friends you’d like them to contact after the birth. Many people have draft texts ready to send!

6.Comforts for You Both

Think: a lightweight blanket, reusable water bottle, massage oil, or even a playlist. A few comfort items from home can ease the wait during early labour.

7.Patience and Positivity

Okay, this one doesn’t go in a bag—but your partner’s calm, supportive energy is one of the best things they can bring into the room.
