After all the focus on birth prep and baby gear, it’s easy to overlook what you need after delivery. But those first few days in hospital are a time of healing, adjusting—and, yes, surviving on very little sleep.
Here are 8 postpartum must-haves you’ll be glad you packed in your hospital bag.
Heavy-duty and extra-absorbent, maternity pads are a must. Bring plenty .more than you think you’ll need.
Soft, high-waisted briefs (or disposable knickers) are essential for comfort and holding pads in place, especially after a C-section or vaginal birth.
Whether you’re breastfeeding or not, tender nipples can be an issue. A gentle, lanolin-based balm can make a world of difference.
Perineal discomfort is very normal. A cooling spray or witch hazel pads can ease swelling and soothe soreness.
You’ll want comfort, coverage and easy access for breastfeeding (if you’re doing it). A soft robe feels like a hug when you need one most.
Hospital food doesn’t always cut it. Pack high-energy snacks and bring a refillable water bottle with a straw, you’ll be surprised how thirsty you get!
Hospital air is dry. Lip balm, a gentle face wash and your own shower bits can help you feel human again.
Whether it’s your own blanket, headphones for relaxing music, or a little framed photo—one small comfort can ground you during those early, emotional days.
